Chapter 4 Strengthening the role and practical capacity of administrations
To establish a community-led fisheries co-management mechanism, administrations must provide on-the-ground support, from identifying challenges to establishing the system and implementing monitoring activities. Even in community-led co-management of fishery resources, the role of the administration is significant.
This chapter describes the following: the role of administrations in fisheries co-management, which is different from top-down resource management activities; the development of a legal framework that supports the basis for resource management regulations and monitoring and control activities conducted by resource management organisations; and the creation of a mechanism to disseminate success stories on resource management activities in surrounding areas.
